Personal Development Week -- January 5, 2005
One hundred and fifty children in Amber completed a Personal Development Week that included yoga, an entrepreneurship workshop, sport, a heritage walk, water conservation and a long distance run. Through self help, the children created a new playground. Contributors included the CISF, ICreate, NTACH and school teachers. The course forms part of the Sambal education project.
Amber Eco Trail upgraded -- December 5, 2004
This month saw the completion of four new features at Amber Eco Trail. A visitor centre has now been completed. This demonstrates traditional building techniques and materials. We have added demonstrations of alternative energy - solar heating and a wind turbine. The water management demonstrations have been enhanced with a new overflow channel, desilting of two more disused quarries and strengthening of the checkdam. The wildlife area has been enhanced with a new pond and woodpiles. Several thousand schoolchildren have now visited Amber Eco trail.
Geoff Want visits Amber -- November 5, 2004
Geoff Want of British Airways visited Amber to see the work of the trust. With his family, Geoff saw our work in schools to improve education and experienced the magnificent heritage of Amber. The visit was featured on local TV. Following his visit, Geoff made a generous donation on behalf of British Airways towards new desks and chairs in schools.
Oxford Archaeology begin digital online heritage map project -- September 5, 2004
Julian Munby, Historic Buildings Expert of Oxford Archaeology made a field trip to Amber in August. Using information collected by local people, Julian began the process of creating a geographical information system for all the heritage sites in Amber. During a very busy trip, every site was located, identified by name and photographed. This included the inner and outer walls of Amber. The work was featured heavily in local newspapers and TV.
Sambal Education project kicks off in Amber -- August 5, 2004
A major project has been started to improve education in Amber. The project has been christened "Sambal" - meaning empowerment in Hindi. It includes upgrading schools' infrastructure, providing desks and chairs, equipping schools with teaching aids, clearing playgrounds, setting up co-curricular activities and IT training. The project is funded by a generous grant from British Airways Change for Good/UNICEF.
Environment booklet published -- March 5, 2004
Amber Trust has published a booklet entitled "First Steps to Saving the Environment" in Hindi, written by Dr Rashmi Dickinson. This was launched by the Governor of Rajasthan with a foreword by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. The booklet contains practical information to help the individual make their contribution to environmental conservation. The booklet aims to fill a gap in raising awareness of this important subject. It will be distributed to the children of Amber and visitors to Amber Eco Trail.
