HRH The Prince of Wales visits Amber -- November 12, 2003

Prince Charles heard about the work of Amber Communities Trust when he visited Amber in Rajasthan during his recent trip to India.

The Prince of Wales spent a day in Amber looking at local projects. Dr Rashmi Dickinson of Amber Communities Trust spent some time with him talking about the work of the Trust, which has a major focus on environmental issues.

His Royal Highness's India trip was intended to highlight the close links and partnership between the UK and India, focusing on heritage and restoration, sustainable development and youth entrepreneurship along with social and environmental work with UK-based charities

“Prince Charles showed a genuine and knowledgeable interest in the community development work that Amber Communities Trust is carrying out.” said Dr Dickinson, “His visit highlighted the need for the type of sustainable development that we are striving for, particularly in relation to water conservation.”

Dr Dickinson presented His Royal Highness with an “I Love Amber” badge, which he wore for the rest of his visit and featured prominently in the wide local press and TV coverage of his visit.

“ Amber is facing a major water shortage,” commented Dr Lata Kler, Chair of Amber Communities Trust, “In response, we have started a project to revive the marvellous local traditional water management system. This idea has brought together local volunteers, local government and interested parties to work in partnership to conserve water using tried and tested traditional technologies.”
