We operate under Gandhian values of simplicity, purity & excellence. We act as a catalyst for change, working with all stakeholders - the communityr, the State and Local Government, other interested organisations and individuals.
We support projects that involve community action so that the people in Amber can participate actively in shaping their own future, rather than being passive recipients of help. Regular community meetings are held to identify priorities and plan projects. We recruit local volunteers who assist in organising projects. More on "Awareness and Action" >>
We try to stimulate civic pride and confidence with a change in attitude of local people from "Hum kya kar sakte hain" (What can we do?) to "Hum sub kuch kar sakte hain" (We can do everything!). We emphasise the need for action by the local people rather than dependence on the Government.
We try not to take on total funding
of any project. We ask the community to contribute through self help. But
we make sure other resources, such as State funding, are allocated to Amber
by acting as an active advocate for Amber, lobbying for resources and co-ordinating
work.
